Detective Smith Media Studio was born from a deep-seated passion for the world of mystery and police procedurals. The initial concept for this media outlet was conceived in 2023 in Canada by Hamidreza Tafreshi, upon recognizing a significant gap in the Persian-language media landscape for structured, precise, and high-standard True Crime documentary content.
The name “Detective Smith” finds its roots in the founder’s childhood nostalgia and his fascination with mystery novels from the 1970s—a name that today stands as a symbol of truth-seeking, analytical perspective, and the unraveling of complex, knotted cases.

The criteria for selecting cases at Detective Smith are based on dramatic appeal, psychological depth, and the intricacies of police puzzles. Our key differentiator is the founder’s three-decade background as a producer and director of investigative documentaries and television programs. We do not merely recount real-life cases; rather, we provide them with a cinematic vision, narrative standards, and professional sound and imagery.
Over 150 true crime documentary scripts and research texts have been written for Detective Smith since the beginning of 2024, creating a distinction born from the harmony of a team of elites and passionate talents in art and media.

The face and voice of Detective Smith; a young and commanding talent who, with her fluent, engaging delivery and flawless transmission of suspense, was selected from dozens of applicants and breathed new life into the program’s segments.
Editing and Visual Rhythm | Mobin
A graduate of Film Editing from Sooreh University; bringing years of continuous collaboration with the production team to create cinematic, mysterious, and breathless pacing.
Cinematography and Framing | Sepehr Asadi
A graduate of Dramatic Literature from the University of Tehran; offering a unique combination of dramatic knowledge and technical mastery over lenses and cinematic imagery.
Lighting Design and Visual Atmosphere | Arash
A specialist in light-setting and atmosphere creation, skilled in crafting mysterious chiaroscuro and visual atmospheres tailored to the crime and mystery genre.
Sound Design and Recording | Parisa
Parisa is a graduate of the IRIB Higher Media School; she has been a loyal companion to the Detective Smith project from the very first day of studio recording.
